Greeneration and Arcadia British School: United to Inspire the New Generation Shaping the UAE’s Greener, Sustainable Future
ShareShareShareShareShare

Greeneration and Arcadia British School came together for an educational session titled “Plants on Shelves: How and Why Vertical Farms Grow Food Indoors” as part of the STEM week at school. The guest lecture reflected a shared vision to support the UAE’s national sustainability goals and inspire the next generation to take part in building a self-sufficient, environmentally responsible future.

Led by Daria Shchurik, Head of Marketing & Product at Greeneration, the session introduced students to how innovation and science are shaping modern food production. Through interactive visuals and examples from Dubai’s high-end vertical farm, students explored how hydroponics, LED lighting, and climate-controlled systems make local farming possible in desert environments, while saving up to 95% of water compared to traditional methods.

The session sparked lively engagement among students, who eagerly shared their thoughts on the future and asked thoughtful questions such as “Can plants grow without sunlight?” and “Would vertical farms be enough to feed big cities?” Their engagement revealed a growing understanding of sustainability and a genuine interest in solving future challenges related to food and the environment.

“When young people show such curiosity about sustainable innovation, we are confident that the future of food and the planet is in responsible hands,” said Daria Shchurik.

Students were encouraged to think about their role in shaping the future. This opened a thoughtful exchange where they explored possible career paths within vertical farming and AgTech, from innovative growers to designers of sustainable food systems. The conversation grew into reflections on their own ambitions, as they shared who they aspire to become and the impact they hope to make as the next generation of change-makers.

Schools incorporate sustainability through curriculum integration, using pedagogical approaches like Design Thinking, systemic analysis, and hands-on projects. This involves teaching specific topics like climate science and resource management, fostering practical skills through activities like school gardens or waste reduction programs, and integrating a “whole school” approach to campus-level changes like energy efficiency.

“The visit from Greeneration was a real highlight of STEM Week. It was inspiring to see our students so engaged – asking thoughtful questions, making connections to their science lessons, and genuinely excited about how technology can help protect our planet,” said Head of Year 4 at Arcadia British School, Bryan Cahill.

The initiative reflects Greeneration’s ongoing mission to merge sustainability with education, fostering awareness of how technology and responsibility can coexist to secure a cleaner, healthier future. The name itself embodies this vision, growing healthy, sustainable, and green food for the new generations who will shape a better world and ensure lasting food security.
