The Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity will showcase the diversity of the agricultural and food industry at Grüne Woche 2026.

How can we eat consciously and avoid food waste? What will animal husbandry look like in the future? How is digitalization being implemented in agriculture? And: What does home mean? At this year’s Grüne Woche (January 16 to 25, 2026), the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Regional Identity (BMLEH) will once again be presenting itself and its many topics in Hall 23a. Under the motto “Strengthening agriculture, shaping the future, securing food supplies,” visitors can learn first-hand about agriculture, animal husbandry, and balanced nutrition, as well as discover various aspects of the topic of home.

At Grüne Woche 2026, the BMLEH will present the following key topics:

Balanced nutrition

At numerous stands and in the accompanying program on stage, visitors to the BMLEH hall can learn, for example, how food labeling and origin information help them shop more consciously. A four-meter-high talking refrigerator from the “Too good for the trash!” initiative vividly demonstrates how food waste can be easily avoided in everyday life. Several cooking demonstrations will show you how to prepare delicious meals from leftovers. In addition, you can learn in a fun way how to recognize calorie traps in so-called to-go products and snacks.

Agriculture

In the BMLEH hall, visitors can experience various aspects of agriculture in a variety of ways. For example, you can learn firsthand about the advantages of a real tractor with an electric drive that uses electricity from the company’s own photovoltaic systems. Different herbs invite you to test your sense of touch and smell: among other things, you will learn more about the diversity of types and varieties of medicinal and culinary herbs. Conventional and organic farmers as well as rural women provide insights into their daily work and offer tastings and hands-on activities.

Regional Identity, rural regions & regional value creation

Since the beginning of this legislative period, the BMLEH has included the word “home” in its name, thereby highlighting the importance of rural areas. Home is more than just a place—it is a feeling of belonging, responsibility, and togetherness. Home is where the heart is, whether in the city or in the countryside. A wide range of projects show how people in rural regions create value, develop economic prospects, and thus contribute to equal living conditions between urban and rural areas. In this way, good homeland policy and the promotion of rural areas become an anchor of stability for social cohesion.

Better animal husbandry

The future of animal husbandry is characterized by greater sustainability, animal welfare, and transparency. Modern technology plays a major role in future-proof farming on pasture and in barns: a virtual look inside a dairy barn shows how data is collected and how it influences animal welfare and husbandry. A digital training tool is being used to improve animal welfare in cattle. Animal signals are evaluated using thermal imaging cameras.

The future of fishing

Fishing becomes tangible for visitors in the BMLEH Hall thanks to clear and consumer-friendly figures, data, and facts: here, visitors can see how fishing works. Detailed models of research vessels complement the presentation of the topic.

Experience the BMLEH up close

How does the Federal Ministry work, and what issues does it focus on? At the BMLEH information point, visitors can learn all about the ministry’s diverse tasks, from sustainable agriculture and food policy to animal welfare. Anyone interested in a career at the BMLEH can talk directly to employees and find out more about entry-level opportunities. Trade fair visitors can take the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the exciting work of the ministry.
